Instructions for downloading and installing Inherit the Earth

For Windows 7, 8 and 10

Step 1: When you click on the download button, your browser will begin to download the Inherit the Earth Trial installation software.
Step 2: You should be asked whether you want to run the software from its current location or save it to disk. If you prefer to save the installation software to disk, follow the instructions in step 3. If you instead choose the first option, the installation process should begin immediately after the software finishes downloading. Skip to step 5.
Step 3: You will be presented with a dialog asking where to save the file itetrial.exe. Save it where you want to, but remember the location.
Step 4: After the download is complete, find the itetrial.exe on your hard drive and double-click on its icon or name. This will start the installation.
Step 5: During installation you will be asked where you want the Inherit the Earth Trial installed. The default location should be fine for most people.
Step 6: Play the trial If you like it, purchase a registration key to complete the game!

For MacOS Catalina (10.15) or Later

Step 1: When you click the download button, your browser will begin to download a disc image containing the trial.
Step 2: Wait until the download is complete. If your web browser and system are properly configured, your Mac will mount the disc image. If the disc image doesn't automatically open when your download completes, locate the file InheritTheEarthTrial.dmg and double-click on it to mount the disc image.
Step 3: A new Finder window will appear containing an icon named "Inherit the Earth". To install simply drag the icon to your Applications folder (or whatever other folder or disk you'd like to run the game from).
Step 4: Once the software is installed, you can safely "eject" the virtual disk (and dispose of the .dmg disc image if you choose).
Step 5: Double-click the "Inherit the Earth" icon in its new location to play the trial.
Step 6. If you like it, purchase a registration key to complete the game!

For Linux 5 (64-bit AMD/Intel) or Later

Step 1: When you click the download button, your browser will begin to download an archive containing the installation software.
Step 2: After the download is complete, locate the downloaded archive file InheritTheEarthTrial.tar.gz on your hard drive. Open a terminal window and change directory to the location you want the game installed.
Step 3: In the terminal type tar xzf /InheritTheEarthTrial.tar.gz to extract the archive. Replace "" with the location of the archive; e.g. ~/Downloads. This will create a directory named InheritTheEarth.
Step 4: Once the trial software has been extracted, you can safely delete the archive file if you desire.
Step 5: Change directory the the nexwly created InheritTheEarth directory.

You can immediately start playing by runing the command ./play.sh
Alternately, you can run the command ./install-games.sh to make it earier to run the game from any terminal and/or run the command ./install-desktop.sh to add an icon to your Applications dock.
